Wind Chill Freezes CBA Out Of Playoffs

Cortland Homer is in the Section III Division II playoffs thanks to a 10-6 record in 3-2-W play…and the wind chill. CBA still had a chance to play their way into the post-season. The Brothers were scheduled for their regular season finale Monday night against Corcoran. A CBA win would tie them with Cortland Homer for fourth in 3-2-W and force a “play in” game that would have been played Tuesday in Cortland.

CBA and Jamesville – DeWitt, who combine to put a team on the ice, both had school Monday…despite the bad weather. However, the severe wind chills caused Corcoran to call off classes and, as a result, the game. No game. No two points for CBA. Cortland Homer finishes in fourth and goes to Whitesboro Friday night, 7:30PM at the Whitestown Rec. Center.

GAME #4 – Cortland Homer at Whitesboro, Friday (2/15) at Whitestown Rec. Center, 7:30PM.

The Purple Tigers are a good, scrappy team…not a lot of size, but they play hard. Senior forward Steve Stowell is the go to guy for this team. He had 27 goals last season and 24 this year. Line mate Paul Zimmerman is not big, but plays big. The junior forward had 10 goals last year and put 15 in the net this year. Senior defenseman Vic Marchetti is the rock on the blue line and junior goaltender Brett Kash is the wall in net. Cortland Homer dropped their first four games of the season, including a 5-1 loss to Hamilton…their only 3-2-E opponent. Their biggest win came in the second to the last game of season, at Nedrow, when the Purple Tigers beat CBA 2-1. They may not have known it when they did it, but that win put Cortland Homer in the playoffs. Whitesboro never had to worry about getting into the playoffs. The Warriors who wear
Blue went coast to coast in first place in the 3-2-E. Big Blue is lead by a Big Blue Line Crew (I got a special on capital letters). Derek Farley, Chris Flynn, Jim Engler and Cooper Zielinski are the best defensive combinations in Section III Division II. They work in front of the best goaltender in 3-2-E, Jack Lambe. There is nothing fancy about the Warriors goal scoring. According to the stats on the Section III website, only two Blue Warriors were double figures in goals on the season…George Hajjar with 27 and Nate Hughes with 13. Mike Nassar is a question mark for the playoffs, due to back trouble. But that doesn’t mean that Mark Evans is without some weapons. Big Logan Schaaf is a presence on the ice…literally. Pat Dundon has helped and sophomore Mike Towne has been coming on strong.
