Goalie Scores OT Game Winner

This one is amazing, but true. It happened last night in the AHL, a game between the Manitoba Moose and the Chicago Wolves. Tied at 1-1, Chicago attacks the Manitoba net. A Wolves player is hooked as he directs the puck toward the net, not enough to really call it a shot. Manitoba goaltender Drew MacIntyre steers the puck off to his right where it’s picked up by Moose player Steve Martins. From behind the goal line, to the side of the net, Martins sends a pass. There was no one there and it cleared through the neutral zone, into the Wolves zone. Chicago had pulled their goaltender off the ice on the delay penalty. The puck slid right into the back of the net. Manitoba wins and, since he was the last Moose player to touch the puck, MacIntyre gets credit for the game winning goal. In 1987, Darcy Wakaluk of the Rochester Americans became the first AHL goalie to score in a game. That happened at the Utica Aud.
