Whitesboro, the Warriors in blue and white, remained unbeaten in3-2-E and gave themselves a comfort zone (as if there was such a thing in this league) by beating RFA 4-1 Thursday night. This one was tighter than the final score, which included an empty netter, would indicate. It was 1-1 after one and it stayed that way after the second. It was Whitesboro's defense, perhaps the best in the league, that provided the offense that got the win. Cooper Zielinski, a big, lanky blue liner, got the game winner.
Whitesboro has now hit the halfway point of their league schedule without taking a loss and have a 3 point lead over New Hartford and RFA. That's a big lead at this point, but not an insurmountable one. Hanging around at the end of the playoff list is Clinton. The Warriors who wear maroon and white have 8 points in league play, but more importantly, have two games in and in the 3-2-E over the top three. Clinton has a very big game against one of those three on Saturday night at the Rec. Center in New Hartford. You know what this is all about…it's not just a hockey game or a hockey game between two playoff contenders. It's New Hartford vs Clinton. That's a match up that has extra weight even on the C Mite level.
Anyway, Clinton is on a roll and the Spartans have been sputtering…playing well enough to get the wins but not quite meeting the great potential that they have. This should be a great game with great importance for both clubs. Should Clinton get the win it could give them an enormous confidence boost…confirmation that they are back on track. It would make them strong and leave New Hartford wondering what is wrong. Should the Spartans prevail, they will gain the confidence of having won a great battle in that wonderful war between these two teams. When Clinton and New Hartford get on the ice together, it's something special.
